Cross-posting my Day 3 entry for [community profile] snowflake_challenge. The prompt was to talk about your favourite piece of canon, and, well, I just had a lot of squee and feeeeelings for my son:

Do you sometimes think about how it's most probably Erik Killmonger's first ever time in Wakanda, and it's such an idyllic moment: the countryside mellowed by the afternoon sun, and all around him for metres just Wakandan grass gently swaying (maybe a hello, maybe something else), and he's dragging a body, and he's Almost There. If I had to choose between this scene and another favourite scene where he walks up to the throne whilst the camera tilted, I'm going with his landing on Wakanda. The first touch, so to speak. The first whiff, the first breath, the first sight. So tranquil, so idyllic. Juxtaposed with a body being dragged and Erik's single-minded expression. SO PERFECT. I love it so much.

A true problematique fave. :')

What about you? What are your favourite scenes or just scenes you enjoyed from the movie?

I always tear up as I remember the line "Can you imagine, a kid from Oakland, walking around and believing in fairy tales?". Also, I loved the symbolism of the weapons in the apartment being hidden behind the political posters. A literal veneer of good intentions and empowerment hiding a plan to impose their will through violence without even coordinating with American Black Militants.

Wow I love that graphic, trying to remember if the lighting was that perfect in the scene. As to your question: I mostly just remember them in a hurry to get to the weapons. I think N'Jobu wanted them distributed to his hand picked leaders. My little white mind was being blown at the direct discussion of colonialism and the duty of a wealthy nation to the world, so I probably missed a lot. Especially after it dawned on me that my 'aliens built the pyramids' Dad who took me to see an action movie might actually learn something.
